“纵一苇之所如, 凌万顷之茫然。
As if upon a blade of reed, in the vast unknown adrift.”
An ongoing series of ink works that elaborates on the Boating at Red Cliff lyrical prose by Sung Dynasty Su Shi.
These works are mostly produced in the course of my NAFA Chinese ink painting specialism class, with the subjects assigned by the teachers.
These ducks, swimming against the wind, appear unusually solemn. One stares meekly ahead, as if at the inscription, which means, “Like sitting upon a blade of reed adrift in the vast unknown, we are travelling in the wind, not knowing when the journey will end.”
This work expresses the artist’s insecurities and reflections on pursuing fine art studies as a mid-careerist. Her resolution is affirmed with the seal at the bottom that states, “Learning has no limit or end” or “Learning is lifelong".
This work was presented at the 19th Ngee Ann National Teochew Artists' Exhibition 2017.
A multi-part installation presented at a work-in-progress showcase in On Air Gallery, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.
